Local Wildlife
Due to our proximity to the national park we are occasionally visited by various local fauna. This guide gives you a quick reference to better know what / who you’re looking at!
Name: Common House Gecko / Jing-Jok
Description: Usually about the size of an adult human finger these guys are an incredibly common encounter within the whole of Thailand. Completely harmless to humans, they love eating small insects especially mosquitos and are often attracted to light sources in the evenings.
Name: Tokay Gecko
Description: A larger arboreal gecko species native to Southeast Asia. Less commonly spotted but frequently heard due its loud “TO-KAY” call. Tokay hunt insects and steer clear of humans, they are easily recognized by their blueish skintone with red/orange dots.
Name: Ants
Description: Many species of ants live in the region, they’ll usually mind their own business but we do discourage guests from leaving food scraps or anything sweet (including some perfumes) outside of a sealed container for too long to avoid the ants from inviting themselves inside your accomodation.
Name: Thai Flying Dragon / Flying
Description: A small gliding lizard that blends with tree back often making it difficult to spot, they spend their entire life on tree trunks and branches so they’re highly unlikely to visit your accomodation, but it’s quite a treat if you’re lucky enough to see a gliding performance from them in person.
Name: Alates / Mang Mao
Description: Often mistaken for a type of ant, these are actually winged termites who shed their wings quickly upon landing. Although they’re harmless and visits from them are rare, they move as a giant swarm and are attracted to light sources so if you notice any starting to show up we recommend turning off lights for a short while to prevent them making a mess.
